When cutting, bending, and assembling processes are employed to build metallic structures, it is metal fabrication. Fabrication companies and shops bid on a project based on engineering drawings. If they are awarded the contract, they employ methods like welding, cutting, forming, and machining to build the product.
How are these methods carried out?
Cutting is done by sawing, shearing, or chiseling.
Bending is done by hammering.
Assembling is done by welding, binding with adhesives, riveting, and threaded fasteners.

Common Definitions
Cutting and Burning
Raw materials have to be worked upon in order to use them. The basic process is cutting. Band saws have hardened blades and a feed mechanism for smoothly cutting the raw material. Companies also use burn tables.
Forming
In this process, a raw material is created by applying pressure on another material. Nothing extraneous is added to or subtracted from the material on which the pressure is applied. For the object's shape to change, the pressure applied should be significant.
Machining
De trop material is removed from the primary object to achieve the desired shape. Most components such as gears, bolts, screws, and nuts are manufactured by this process.
Welding
We all are familiar with welding. When two materials or elements are to be conjoined, they are welded together. Welders take necessary precautions to preclude warping of the weldment due to heat.
